The year 2005 was observed as the 125th birth anniversary year of the great Hindi/Urdu writer Munshi Prem Chand. Prem Chand’s writings are an unparalleled mirror of our national struggle for freedom, the aspirations of the oppressed people to create an exploitation free society and the composite culture of our people. He is one of the most significant secular icons of our times.

To celebrate Premchand and his writings SAHMAT invited a number of eminent painters and designers who have used Premchand’s writings with their own creative endeavour. The artists and designers include Gulam Mohammad Sheikh, Arpana Caur,

Haku Shah, Veer Munshi, Shamshad, Eleena Banik, Avani Kant, Ratnabali Kant, Nand Katyal, Gopi Gajwani, Hem Jyotika, Sanjay Sharma, Saba Hasan, Ram Rahman, Parthiv Shah,  Rajinder Arora, Kanishk and Shruti Singh. SAHMAT published a special folder with calendar and a set of post-cards of 25 works by these eminent Indian painters.

A full colour calendar on art paper by selection from these works and a  set of 25 cards had been produced using all the works. SAHMAT brought out a special number on him of its magazine SAHMAT MUKTNAAD on  25th July 2005 in the presence of  Rajendra Yadav and Sudeep Banerjee.
