We are saddened by the decision taken by M.F.Husain to withdraw his film Meenaxi-The Tale of Three Cities from being screened in theatre halls. Husain has been forced to take the step after several Muslim organisations objected to the phrase Noor-un-ala-noor being used in a song which according to them hurt their religious sentiments.

It is very unfortunate that such grounds are being proferred by conservative and fundamentalist elements to curb intellectual and artistic creativity. If such trends which have increased alarmingly in the recent past, continue unchecked we will soon be reduced to being artistically and intellectualy barren society.
