SAHMAT & Jamia Millia Islamia are pleased to present Imaging the Legend, an exhibition of photographs of  M F Husain by well known artists and creative photographers, admirers and friends,  gallery owners and collectors, on 17 September 2012 at MF Husain Gallery, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi at 5 pm.The exhibition will remain open till 24th September.

Participating in this show include famous photographers like Atul Kasbekar, Pablo Bartholomew, Raghu Rai, Fawzan Husain, Sooni Tarapoorwala, Gautam Patole, Parthiv Shah etc; famed artists like Jyoti Bhatt, Riyas Komu, Bose Krishnamachari, Atul Dodiya, etc, personalities like Pritish Nandi, Kalpana Shah etc and a host of celebrated photo-journalists Mukesh Parpiani, Kedar Nene, Neeraj Priyadarshini, Gajanan Dudhalkar, Ashish Rane etc.
Imaging the Legend, curated by Niyatee Shinde and Fawzan Husain,  is an exhibition of portraits of M F Husain that was conceptualised to pay tribute to his legendary and celebrated

presence on the Indian art scene. Always nattily dressed, dramatically poised, in contemplative mood, whether reading a newspaper, or sketching for autograph hunters or merely sipping tea, that Husain presence pervades the scene is unquestionable and most of the portraits capture this. This exhibition is a tribute to his irreplaceable persona and includes his immense contribution to Indian art.

Most part of these images were not made for exhibition or gallery display.  While some were published in newsprint complementing written stories, many photographs in this exhibition were from encounters with the artist in locations spread all over the world at his different abodes and never seen before. These are portraits with a strong sense of personality and life and unquestionably capture a slice of the enigma that was Husain.
